Buccaneer Wins National Research Data Distribution Center Contract

 

WARRENTON, VA, October 1, 2008 – Buccaneer Computer Systems & Service, Inc. (Buccaneer) has been awarded a $3.4 million (if all options are exercised) national Medicare research data distribution center contract by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).  The effort was led by Buccaneer’s new Software Development and Informatics Division. The award of this contract, under the direction of the Office of Research, Development and Information at CMS, will add technical, statistical, analytical, and program management staff to both the West Des Moines, Iowa and Warrenton, Virginia offices starting in early October.

 

The Research Data Distribution Center (RDDC) disseminates Medicare and Medicaid data to public and private researchers.  This includes processing, storage, and delivery of the following types of data files:

·        Research identifiable data

·        Limited data sets

·        Non-identifiable data, public use files

 

CMS receives a high volume of research data requests each year, ranging from standard data sets to complex, customized extracts of data.  Medicare and Medicaid data requests are increasing in demand and complexity, and require highly technical and analytic dissemination expertise.  The RDDC enables CMS to fulfill such requests in a timely, efficient manner.
