Buccaneer Wins QIES Contract with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
WARRENTON, VA, September 4, 2008 – Buccaneer Computer Systems & Service, Inc. (Buccaneer) has been awarded a $3.5 million Quality Improvement and Evaluation System (QIES) contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The team, led by the Buccaneer Software Development and Informatics (SDI) Division, has been tasked with providing technical help desk services, software quality assurance and development support for national user tools for nursing homes, swing beds, home health agencies, and rehab units.
QIES is a system used by CMS, an agency in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, for many of the agency’s quality of care activities, including its Survey and Certification program; quality indicators for nursing homes and home health agencies; complaints and enforcement monitoring; accreditation processes; consumer information initiatives (such as Nursing Home and Home Health Compare); as well as data validation and survey process enhancement initiatives. QIES national systems include, but are not limited to Certification and Survey Provider Enhanced Reporting (CASPER), QIES Workbench, and QIES to Success.
QIES is also used by State Survey Agencies, other federal agencies, Quality Improvement Organizations (QIO), beneficiaries, consumers and researchers that use information about the quality of care from Medicare and Medicaid providers. It serves as the focal point for resident assessment, quality indicators, survey/certification, and enforcement information concerning providers.
