Buccaneer Wins “Applying Quality Metrics” Contract
Buccaneer Computer Systems & Service, Inc., Software Development and Informatics Division, is pleased to announce the finalization of a sole source contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of Policy entitled “Applying Quality Metrics.” During this nine month contract, Buccaneer staff will assist the CMS Office of Policy in investigating patterns of cost, quality and service use in fee-for-service (FFS) populations served by the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Two analyses are planned. The first analysis will focus on elderly Medicare beneficiaries and compares spending, utilization, and quality across geographic areas. The second analysis will focus on the population of dual eligible beneficiaries in Medicare and Medicaid. In this analysis, spending and utilization will be compared by service setting and source of program dollars to identify the effect of the interaction of Medicare and Medicaid program spending. CMS will use the study results to consider policy changes that will improve care and reduce costs and inefficiencies. The Applying Quality Metrics contract is the third in a series of contracts since June 2008 and builds on Buccaneer’s previous work with the CMS Office of Policy. Ongoing results of this work are presented regularly to the CMS Acting Administrator and the CMS Policy Council.
